DEMOLITION OF AN URBAN PLAZA: HACIBAYRAM VELI MOSQUE/AUGUSTUS TEMPLE AND HACIBAYRAM SQUARE PROJECT IN ANKARA

One of the first comprehensive urban design projects I was involved (as a student of architecture) in late 80s and early 90s... An early precedent for multi-disciplinary and participatory urban & regional transformation project... A Planning and Urban Design Lesson from 90s by Middle East Technical University in colloboration with Ankara Municipality (I mean the governing administration at the time)...  A Shopping Arcade and Cultural Complex around Hacıbayram Square in Ankara Turkey (by architect Prof.Dr. C.Abdi Guzer under the coordination of City Planner Prof.Dr. Raci Bademli).. One of the first attempts to define a positive urban space in a spatial continuum within the traditional/historical fabric of Ankara connecting Ulus to its surrounding... Currently (21-3 Feb 2013) being demolished (thanks to Aydin Kilicoglu for sharing the demolishment photos on Facebook Group on Ankara )...
